Ghazey Aleck to run for circuit court judge
Clare Attorney Ghazey Aleck has announced that he will be a candidate for Circuit Judge, a post presently held by Roy Mienk and includes Clare and Gladwin Counties.
Ghazey Aleck, who has maintained his offices in Clare County his entire career, is an attorney of 26 years who has handled all types of matters including many important cases, and he has successfully argued cases in the Court of Appeals out of the 55th Circuit Court. He is also a former Clare County Prosecuting Attorney.
Aleck says that he will not be running a traditional campaign. He indicated that many people do not know what a Circuit Judge does and they don’t realize how important a good judge is until they, themselves, are in need of justice from a Circuit Judge.
He stated that people tend to reelect the incumbent Judge because they don’t know enough about judgeships so they generally just vote for the person that is in office regardless of the issues. But more often than not, the people don’t have a choice because incumbent Judges often do not have any competition and this limits what people learn about judgeships as well.
For these reasons, Aleck says he will not be the typical politician in that he will be attempting to provoke inquiry from citizens so they can make an informed choice for Circuit Court Judge.
In deciding to run for Circuit Judge, Aleck said, “I think the people need a choice, and I believe that my candidacy provides a clear alternative. If you like the way things have been going, I say that you ought to vote for Roy Mienk.”
“If you don’t know what is going on in the Circuit Court, ask your friends, neighbors, attorney or someone in the know about their experiences in Circuit Court. If you do that, I believe you will quickly realize that I will be able to immediately improve the Circuit Court with my extensive experience. For those who have had experience in the Circuit Court, please share that information with others.”
Aleck went on to say, “I have been involved in controversial issues over the years, not to make money, but because it was the right thing to do, and I think that proves that I have the strength to stand on principle. I have the ability to do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.”
“Even in running for this position, I am standing on principle. I feel that the Circuit Court needs vast improvement. People should keep in mind that I have a successful law practice so I don’t need a job. My sole purpose in running is to better my community.”
Ghazey Aleck concluded by saying, “After being an aggressive attorney for 26 years, I am confident that the many people I have represented as clients have a positive view of my candidacy. I also fully realize that the people on the other side of the cases often have an extreme emotional dislike towards me as an attorney.”
Ghazey Aleck holds a Bachelor Degree from Central Michigan University and a Juris Doctorates Degree from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He is a 1979 graduate of Clare High School.
Ghazey Aleck, a 25 year resident of Grant Township in Clare County, has been married 25 years to his wife Laurie who is a high school teacher.
