Farwell baseball falls short against Gladwin
Farwell nearly pulled off an upset over Gladwin in Monday’s division three baseball district at Pinconning, but instead, the Eagles dropped a 5-4 decision to the Flying G’s.
“We fought the whole game and if it weren’t for one bad inning we might have been writing a whole different story,” Farwell head coach Erik Schunk said. ““I thought we showed great improvement throughout the year,I believe this showed in our competitiveness in the district game against Gladwin.”
That inning was the bottom of the fifth, a frame that saw Gladwin score all five of its runs, though only two were earned.
Farwell scored two runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth.
Jacob Sutton suffered the loss for the Eagles, pitching four and 2/3 innings, giving up five runs, two earned on six hits, three strikeouts and four walks.
Austin Hickey led the offense with three hits, Sutton, Cody Carncross and Trent Marhofer all had one hit with Carncross adding two RBI, Marhofer and Chris Heemskerk both had one RBI.
The Eagles finish the season 8-26 overall.
“I commend my players for all the hard work they put in this season and I hope they continue to work over the summer and off season to pick up where we left off,” Schunk said. “We have a lot of returning starters so I am setting my expectations for them very high.”
