Farwell hopes new coach continues trend

The Farwell football team has made great strides in recent years, making the playoffs in 2010 and backing that up with a solid 4-5 record a year ago.
“We want to go out each night and play hard and leave everything on the field,” first year head coach Alan Esterline said about entering the 2012 season.
Returning from last year’s team are seniors Jacob Turner (quarterback, safety), Keegan Rohdy (running back, safety), Zach Wixson (wide receiver, corner back), Quincy Crawford (running back, defensive end), Brodie Moore (center, defensive tackle), Aaron Averill (offensive, defensive lines), Adam Gott (offensive, defensive lines), Sean Robison (wide receiver, safety), Kyle Skornica (offensive, defensive lines) and junior Ryan Simmons (guard, linebacker).
New to the team are seniors Taylor Larrabee (tight end) Tyler Hadley (tight end, safety), Lane Romanelli (offensive, defensive lines), juniors Riley Skornicka (running back, center), Mitch Nordstrom (tight end, linebacker), Kris Lamerand (running back),Jacob Sutton (tight end, linebacker), Seth Baginski (wide receiver), Cody Sinks (running back), Tanner Touchtone (running back, safety), Jaoey Bowen (wide receiver), Devin Warner (offensive, defensive lines), Dustin Weber (offensive, defensive lines), Tristen Zienkiewicz (offensive, defensive lines) and sophomore Noah Wilson (running back, linebacker).
Esterline expects Simmons, Rohdy and Turner to be the squad’s impact players this year.
“Turner will be our starting quarterback, he has a strong arm and quick feet,” he said. “He is a great young man and is working very hard to get better each day.”
Rohdy was the team’s leading rusher last year as a junior.
“Our ground game should be OK,” Esterline said. “We are just trying to get better each and every day. We need underclassmen to step up and play big roles for us to be successful.”
The Eagles opened their season yesterday against Coleman and play next on Thursay at Marion. Coleman topped Farwell 43-26 in last year’s opener while it will be the first meeting with Marion since 1965. Marion won that contest 20-0.
