Weaver graduates, begins golf career
Josh Weaver, son of Tom and Pam Weaver of Clare, recently graduated from Ferris State University.
He attended Grand Valley State University for 2 years, from 2006 through 2008, as a Dental/Business major and transferred to Ferris State University College of Business in the fall of 2008 in the Professional Golf Management program.
According to his mother, Josh started golfing when he was 5 years old. “When he was 12,” She said, “I would drop him off at the golf course on my way to work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and then pick him up on my way home. In high school he chose to play football his freshman year, but was on the varsity golf team his sophomore, junior and senior years.”
He served his Internship at The Pohl Cat Golf Course, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where he worked at Outside Players’ Assistant, In charge of the golf car fleet and driving range, and assisted guests with their clubs before and after their rounds. He also worked in the Pro Shop scheduling tee times and checking in golfers.
Josh was on the Dean’s List for the Fall 2008, and Spring 2009 Dean’s List and on the Fall 2011 Dean’s List. He earned the 2010 Academic Excellence Award with a cumulative 3.5 GPA or above for 12 or more FSU-earned hours per semester.
He served another Internship at Reynold’s Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia, where he was Outside Players’ Assistant- In charge of the golf car fleet and driving range, and assisted guests with their clubs before and after their rounds. He also worked in the Pro Shop scheduling, golfer check-in, and setting up morning shotgun starting times.
He participated in Ferris State University College of Business December 17, 2011 Commencement even though he had one more internship to complete.
He served his final internship at The Breakers, Palm Beach, Florida from January through April, 2012, where he was Practice Facility Attendant, Bag Room Attendant, and he helped teach an after school golf program
Josh is now employed full-time by The Breakers where he has been spending the summer teaching their junior golf programs. When the summer programs end, he will work in the pro shop.
