Clare XC girls run to victory at 18-team invite
The Clare girl’s varsity cross country team took top honors in the 18 team Bullock Creek Invitational on Saturday, tallying a team score of 61 points. Breckenridge took second with 68.
Victoria Harper led the Lady Pioneers with a fourth place finish and time of 20:14, Linsday Winter came in fifth at 20:21, Robyn Stanley came in 15th at 22:11, Sadie Phillips was 16th at 22:18, Melissa Benchley was 21st at 22:48, Madison McPhee was 24th at 23:09, Sam Gray was 30th at 23:42, Paige Gould was 34th at 23:47, Amanda Yats was 58th at 24:55, Brooke Beatty was 60th at 24:59, Rocio Spicer Torres placed 83rd at 26:08, Megan Sheredy was 94th at 26:59, Sam Warner was 04th at 27:52 and Angelica Krueger was 113th at 29:12.
The Clare boy’s team took third place at the meet, with 78 points. Breckenridge won with 57 points and Freeland placed second with 66.
“We ran a lot of course or personal bests on tired legs,” Clare head coach Adam Burhans said. “The weather was agreeable and the guys are just focused to help each other. These are good, honorable kids. They are family. Hence, their performance.”
Hunter Nivison took second in the meet with a time of 16:59, Lucas Combs came in 10th at 17:37,
Kyler Phillips came in 11th at 17:37, Kevin Spicer Torres took 14th at 17L47, Riley Crawford came in 41st at 19:15, Chase Field timed out at 19:22, Brock Demo had a time of 19:50, Mike Wertheimer had a time of 21:49 and Nick Wertheimer timed out at 22:27.
The Clare junior high girl’s team also won the meet, topping 26 other teams with 47 points.
Jasmine Harper took third place to lead the Lady Pioneers with a mile and a half time of 9:45, Holly Pummel took sixth at 10:24, Mackenzie Harmon was 17th at 10:45, Hannah Brown was 23rd at 11:04, Ruth Mooketsi was 23rd at 11:05 to finish out the medal winners for Clare.
Lauren Fairchid took 29th at 11:12, Mabel Krause was 32nd at 11:19, Ellie Kaechelle was 42nd at 11:32, Alea Thayer was 48th at 11:46, Sarah Gray was 50th at 11:50, Emily Austin took 51st at 11:52, Ashley Rawson was 52nd at 11:55, Jordyn Bradley was 66th at 12:10, Montana Blain was 73rd at 12:22, Ashley Boulis was 95th at 13:08, Mackenzie Rahl came in 100th at 13:15, Katie Kronewitter was 101st at 13:16, Amanda Calkins was 108th at 13:24, Kira Glowniak was 111th at 13:27, Hannah Showers was 114th at 13:34, Olivia Walworth was 117th at 13:47, Michaella Brand-schlict was 123rd at 14:09, Heather Martin was 137th at 15:25 and Taylor Reno came in 138th at 15:27.
Clare competes next on Saturday at the Holly Invitational and hosts a Jack Pine Conference jamboree on Wednesday.
The Clare junior high boy’s team also placed well at the Bullock Creek Invitation as well, taking third place.
“This placing was huge,” Burhans said. “Bay City Western and White Pine were the only teams to beat us and that says a lot about where we finished. It’s the highest junior high finish at this invite in many years.”
Ben Haupt finished the 1.5 mile course in 9:21 to come in 11th, Jimmy Teall came in 16th at 9:27, Gabe Denton came in 24th at 9:36, Noah Nivison took 36th at 10:05, Scotty Baldwin came in 49th at 10:30, JJ Gross placed 77th with a time of 11:09 and Thad Warner came in 107th at 11:55.
