Harrison broke into the win column in a big way Friday night, topping the host Bevaerton Beavers 41-20 in Jack Pine Conference football.
“We are all very happy with the win,” Harrison head coach Mike Petrongelli said. “Everyone has been working very hard and the players have been practicing very well. We made some changes and position changes. Worked very well.”
Kyle Fritzenger scored on a 10 yard run and Jacob Stuhr kicked in the extra point to point the Hornets up 7-0 in the first quarter.
Jake Walraven ran in for two touchdowns in the second quarter, the first on a one yard run and the second on a four yard jaunt.
Stuhr connected with Randy Johnson for a 30 yard touchdown to give Harrison a 27-14 lead at the half.
Walraven scored on a one yard run and the Hornets added a two-point conversion on a pass from Stuhr to Johnson, and Fritzenger ran in for a 15 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, adding a Stuhr extra point to account for the final.
Walraven ran 15 times for 155 yards and three touchdowns, Cody Rodgers ran 11 times for 73 yards, Fritzenger ran nine times for 70 yards and one score, Stuhr had nine carries for 49 yards and Johnson had 43 yards on six tries.
Stuhr was two-of-six passing for 70 yards with one touchdown and one interception as the Hornets totaled 472 yards of offense on the night.
Bret Coughlin led the Hornets with eight tackles, Walraven and Nate Lipovsky both had five with Lipovsky adding a sack, Ryan Hubbard had four tackles and two sacks and Rodgers had four tackels and one interception.
Harrison (1-4 overall, 1-2 JPC) plays at Clare (3-2, 3-0) tonight. Clare is coming off a 37-6 win over Farwell last week. Clare won last year’s meeting 33-17 but Harrison pulled off an 18-12 win in 2010.
“Clare is always a good team,” Petrongelli said. “We are going to build from last week and keep improving. We will have to play attacking defense and our offensive line must control their defensive line.”
