Rosco nudges Eagles, 15-12
Farwell dropped its second game of the season Friday night, falling 15-12 to host Roscommon in a Jack Pine Conference football contest.
The Bucks scored on a Caleb Jernigan six yard run with 8:55 to play in the second quarter, with Farwell scoring on a Jacob Turner three yard run late in the half to make it 7-6 at the break.
The Eagles forced the Bucks into a punt on their first possession and Farwell took a 12-7 lead on a seven yard run by Turner.
Roscommon regained the lead however, getting a 39 yard touchdown pass from John Miller to Alex Gojcaj.
Hunter Mires ran in the two-point conversion to make it 15-12 with 4:24 to play in the third.
Farwell twice had the ball inside Roscommon’s 20 yard line in the fourth quarter, once getting it to the 11 before turning the ball over on downs.
“We had opportunities, we were down there a couple times and we just couldn’t get it in the end zone,” Farwell head coach Alan Esterline said. “The boys played awful hard, we just needed a couple breaks and we didn’t get them. I think they’re a good football team and we gave them all they wanted.”
Turner finished with 140 yards passing by completing five-of-11 passing and Turner ran 21 times for 73 yards.
Sean Robison made two catches for 87 yards and Sutton had two grabs for 45 yards.
Noah Wilson had 11 tackles to lead the defense, Ryan Simmons had nine and Tristan Zanckowitz had seven.
Farwell (2-2 overall, 0-2 JPC) plays at Clare (2-2, 2-0) today.
“They’re an awful good football team,” Esterline said. “They lost to some very good teams. We’re going to go to practice and work hard and see if we can give them a ball game.”
The Pioneers topped the Eagles 42-6 last year, though Farwell edged Clare 19-14 in the playoffs in 2010.
