200 attend “Get Out and Vote”
More than 200 adults and children visited the Fruitful Orchard in Gladwin last month for the “Get Outand Vote Family Fall Festival,” sponsored by the Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District, the Great Start Collaborative of Clare and Gladwin counties, the Clare County Youth Council, and the Gladwin County Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Council. The event offered community members an opportunity to talk with political candidates, register to vote, walk through the voting process, and learn about the proposals on the upcoming ballot; all in a familyfriendly setting.
The kids in attendance received a free hot dog and those who registered to vote or verified if they were registered were given a free hayride. “It was wonderful to see everyone having fun while making sure they were prepared to vote in the upcoming election and teaching their kids a thing or two about our democracy,” said Clare-Gladwin RESD Superintendent Sheryl Presler.
The Great Start Parent Coalition set up a Kids Voting Booth where children could vote on their favorite type of apple. Of the 62 children who participated, the red apple received the majority of the votes. “I’d like to thank the Fruitful Orchard, our volunteers, the candidates, and the local agencies for donating their time and resources toward making this event such a great success,” said Heather DuBois, Great Start Collaborative Director.
