Clare crowned state champs
The Clare High School Equestrian Team is the Division B State Champions. The Team showed from the very first District Meet back in August that they were a serious contender for the State Competition. After dominating and winning Districts by an unprecedented margin, the Team went on to compete at Regionals. Regionals were held September 29-30. Once again, Clare showed just how talented and determined they were and brought home the Regional Trophy. This earned them a spot in the State Meet.
The State Meet was held October 11-14 at the Midland County Fairgrounds. With 40 teams competing in the four different divisions, Clare was ready to face the challenge that lay ahead. After the first two days of competition Clare was in third place. They were just twelve points behind second place Williamston and fourteen points behind first place Fruitport. Saturday and Sunday may have been cold and rainy but the Clare girls simply shined!
“All the girls really came together and got their best rides when we needed them. All their hard work, dedication and commitment really paid off,” commented Coach Jenny Schunk. The Team methodically went to work Saturday and by evening had garnished enough points to take the lead by 74 points! Sunday was no different as they continued their domination through the last event. They were named State Champions with an 85 point margin over second place Fruitport.
