Farwell drop first JPC to Bobcats
Houghton Lake used a big second quarter to take control of Friday night’s Jack Pine Conference basketball game, handing Farwell a loss in both team’s league opener.
The Eagles scored just four points in the first quarter, getting field-goals by Curtis Robinson and Walter Mosby but trailed just 5-4 heading into the second stanza.
H-L took control of the game in that frame, outscoring Farwell 20-5 to take a 25-9 lead at the break.
Robinson had Farwell’s lone field-goal in the quarter, with Mosby and Dylan Brown adding single free-throws.
Farwell chipped into the Bobcat lead with a 15-12 edge in the third quarter to make it 37-24, but the Eagles weren’t able to finish off the comeback despite 11 second half points by Robinson.
“We played a good second half but ran into the same second quarter struggles as we did on Tuesday against Evart,” Farwell head coach Erik Schunk said. “This will be definitely be our focus this week.”
Robinson hit a pair of three-pointers to lead the team with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals.
“Curtis led us in scoring and overall play again,” Schunk said. “I am looking forward to seeinghim continue to develop this season.”
Mosby, Jacob Sutton and Trevor McComber all added five points, with Sutton adding nine boards and McComber grabbing eight.
Farwell (0-2 overall, 0-1 JPC) hosted Beaverton on Wednesday, played at Harrison tonight (Friday) and play at Montabella on Monday in non-league game.
