Eagles rout Rosco in a 41-27 win
Farwell dominated the first eight minutes of Tuesday night’s home girls basketball contest against Roscommon, paving way to a 41-27 Jack Pine Conference win.
The Lady Eagles opened the game on a 15-0 run, with Roscommon not getting its first basket until the final seconds of the first quarter to make it 15-2 after the first.
“They came out really strong,” Farwell head coach Tom Kleinhardt said. “We were real pleased with the start that we had.”
The Lady Bucks outscored Farwell 9-6 to make it 21-11 at the half, and cut the lead to eight points late in the third quarter. The Eagles scored six straight points to go up 14, finishing off the 14 point win.
“We played really good defense,” Kleinhardt said. “In the fourth quarter we pretty much handled whatever they threw at us. They brought some pressure but we handled it pretty well.”
Sydney Hurley, Janna Hamming and Kate Saupe all had nine points in the win, with Hamming adding nine rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Farwell (4-5 overall, 3-4 JPC) played host to Gladwin on Thursday, hosts Vestaburg on Tuesday and plays at Houghton Lake on Thursday.
“We hope that we can get the second half of the season going the right way with a good game against Gladwin,” Kleinhardt said. “It will take a good game to beat them but we’re definitely capable of doing it.”
