Bernard Duane Scott
A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 11AM, at the Campbell-Stocking Family Funeral Home in Farwell. Joe Norris will officiate with burial in Gilmore Twp.Cemetery.
Friends and family may visit on Mon. from 4-8PM. Bernard was born on March 14, 1924 in Farwell Michigan, the son of William and Hilda (Schaar) Scott. He attended school in Farwell, later enlisting and proudly serving with the United State Dept. of Commerce, commonly known as Merchant Marines.
He was proficient and certified for service to seamen, engine room operations, galley and food operations, and lifeboat stewardship. He served aboard the SS Douglas Houghton, and the SS George Davis from 1942-1946. He worked for General Motors retiring after 34 years of service. He married Eileen Brown in Houghton Lake, MI on August 25, 1984.
He loved gardening, carpentry, fishing and his dogs. He is survived by his wife Eileen, son Wayne Scott and wife April of Harrison, daughter-in-law Jackie Scott of Flint, step-daughter Lynette Norris and husband Joe of Mancelona, Fred Chidester and wife Carol of Houghton Lake, eleven grandchildren, and many beautiful great-grandchildren.
