Clare Avenue to be closed for $2 million construction project
Clare Avenue from Mannsiding Road to Gladwin Road (M-61) in Hatton Township, Clare County will be closed for reconstruction beginning in mid April.
The project, with an estimated construction cost of $2,000,000 was let through the MDOT Local Agency bidding process on March 1, 2013. D.J. McQuestion & Sons, Inc. from Leroy, MI was successful low bidder with a bid price of $1,595,873.
Work will include clearing & grubbing, pavement removal, earthwork, drainage improvements, aggregate base, curb & gutter, HMA paving, shoulders and slope restoration. Left-turn lanes will be added and double overhead flashing beacons will be installed at the Clare Avenue/Mannsiding Road intersection.
Construction will take place in two (2) phases.
Phase I will consist of reconstruction of the Clare Avenue/Mannsiding Road intersection and will require complete closure of the intersection to through traffic. The contractor will begin mobilizing equipment and establish detour routes beginning the week of 4/8/13, with actual pavement removal and construction work to begin on 4/15/13. Access to Mid Michigan Community College and Clare/Gladwin RESD during Phase I will require entering the area from the north and using the main college entrance located on Clare Avenue. Phase I work is scheduled to be completed by May 3, 2013.
Phase II work will require closing Clare Avenue to through traffic from just north of Mannsiding Road to just south of Gladwin Road (M-61). This phase is scheduled to begin May 6, 2013 and should be completed and open to traffic by August 16, 2013. Mid Michigan Community College and Clare/Gladwin RESD students and staff will have access to facilities from the Mannsiding Road entrance during Phase II.
