Pros help students gain career skills at interview day
More than 100 local high school students recently practiced job interviews and had their resumes, cover letters, and job applications critiqued during this year’s Mock Interview Day; an annual event presented by a committee representing area schools, Clare-Gladwin RESD, Middle Michigan Development Corporation, Mid-Michigan Human Resource Association, Mid Michigan Works, and MSU Extension.
High school juniors and seniors from Beal City, Clare, Farwell, Harrison, Mount Pleasant, and Shepherd gathered at Central Michigan University’s Bovee Center to strengthen those essential career skills with guidance from approximately 50 area professionals, as well as from students representing CMU’s Career Services, who volunteered their time to conduct the interviews and critiques. Informational workshops were also offered, covering topics such as money-management and appropriate career attire.
“Mock Interview Day is one of my favorite days of the whole school year,” said Farwell High School student Tyler Short.
Mock Interview Day 2013 was made possible by generous contributions from Future Mold, Mid Michigan Community College, Mid Michigan Human Resource Association, and Mitsuba.
