CMDHD to build new health, dental clinic in Harrison
By Pat Maurer
The process is just beginning, but planning is underway for a brand new building next year that will house the Health Department, Mid Michigan Health and a Dental Clinic on the south side of Harrison.
The Clare County Commission recently approved the financing for the new facility, which will be built at the current site of the Mental Health Clinic located at 815 North Clare Avenue just south of the city limits.
The Central Michigan District Health Department, the Michigan Community Dental Clinics organization and the MidMichigan Health are in the process of designing the new office complex which will house all three entities. The three organizations are currently in the process of creating a building design and floor plans. The health department and dental clinic will be financed through the Northern Health Foundation, said CMDHD Health Officer Mary Kushion.
The new building will be paid off in about 20 years and when it is paid off, the building will revert to Clare County. The property will continue to be owned by MidMichigan Health.
She said the group expects to break ground in the Summer of 2013 and anticipates moving into the new space in the spring of 2014. The square footage of the health department and dental clinic is estimated at 11,700.
The Dental Clinic for people who may not be able to afford dental care has been a goal for over a year.
“The residents of Clare County have waiting a long time for a dental clinic and we are pleased that the community partners have come together to create this new facility” Kushion said. “We also need improved, private clinic and office space for our health department clients. This new facility will provide us with that”. She added.
