Community Nurse Julie Wright receives “Together We Can”
Julie Wright , R.N. community nurse for MidMichigan Medical Center–Gladwin , was awarded the Together We Can Award April 8 at the Public Health Summit for the Central Michigan District Health Department.
The award is given to an individual or organization that has gone out of their way to help build a healthier community. Candidates for the award have gone above and beyond , putting in considerable amounts of time and effort working to improve the health status of the area by educating , promoting , or planning health related programs. The purpose of the award is to recognize the hard work of the recipient.
Wright received the honor for serving as a catalyst for change , sharing knowledge and expertise through multiple collaborative partnerships such as Together We Can , the Clare-Gladwin Health Improvement Team , the Council of Abuse and Neglect , the Great Start Collaborative , Health and Human Services of Gladwin County and the Beaverton Community Center . Her energy and passion help keep committee participants motivated and focused on their goals.
In addition , Wright has facilitated evidenced-based , best practice programs , such as Know Your Numbers , stroke screenings , and community health fairs that provide targeted education and free medical screenings for children , adolescents , and women , including those who are underinsured.
“Through her hard work and dedication , gaps in care for community members with transportation and other hardships have been addressed , ” said Dana Garafalo , R.N. , B.S.N. , C.I.C. , C.P.P.S. , quality manager , MidMichigan Medical Centers in Clare and Gladwin. “She was instrumental in bringing childbirth preparation and breastfeeding classes to Clare and Gladwin. Additionally , Julie is part of a team who planned the Women’s Empower Health Conference , offered to women who are underinsured or of low income , which takes place on May 13 at the Doherty Hotel in Clare. Julie is certainly deserving of this award , and we are grateful for her efforts.”
