BAYANET seized nearly $2 million
The Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (BAYANET) seized $1.9 million dollars in street value of illegal narcotics in 2012. In addition to the narcotics seized, detectives conducted the following activity in 2012:
604 New Cases Opened
183 Search Warrants Executed
717 Surveillance Operations Conducted
305 Suspects Arrested
95 Firearms Seized
278 Fugitives Arrested
BAYANET operates from two offices in the Mid-Michigan area. The North Team covers Clare, Gladwin and Isabella Counties from an office located in Mt. Pleasant. The Saginaw office houses the Saginaw Team, Bay – Midland Team, MSP Third District Fugitive Team, and a Violent Crimes Unit with Federal Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
BAYANET is a Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force (MJTF), where local, county, state and federal law enforcement partners work in a coordinated and cooperative effort to effectively investigate narcotics traffickers. Because crime is mobile and criminals do not recognize jurisdictional boundaries, BAYANET provides resources for a regional, cost effective approach to investigate narcotics traffickers and major cases.
The success of our operation is directly attributed to the continued support of our partnering agencies. Those agencies are: The Bay, Clare, Isabella, and the Midland County Sheriff Offices. Saginaw, Saginaw Twp, Midland, Mt. Pleasant, Central Michigan University and the Chippewa Tribal Police, departments.
