James “Jim” McCarthy
James “Jim” McCarthy was born on June 2, 1940 in Pontiac to John and Pearl McCarthy. Jim was raised in Pontiac along with his two sisters Marilyn and Patricia. Jim married his wife Karon on August 26, 1967; they resided in Clarkston. Jim worked for General Motors Truck and Bus for 38 years, where he held multiple positions until retirement in 1996. Jim had an impeccable work ethic and took pride in the work he produced. Upon Retirement, they moved fulltime to Lake George and spend their winters in Naples, Fl.
Jim could never sit still, he always had a project in hand and took great pride in what he was working on whether it was; landscaping his yard, remodeling, or working on something mechanical, he could always fix anything or he’d find out how to fix it. Jim was always lending a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors. He was an active member in the Lake George community for 30 years, who also volunteered his skills and time at Marco Shores Estates, his winter home in Florida. Jim was an avid golfer and belonged to multiple golf leagues over the years. He enjoyed traveling locally and abroad, boating, fishing, friends, and being outdoors. Jim was member of the Clare Eagles, Elks, the Harrison Moose and American Legion.
Jim will always be remembered for being a kind, loving, and generous; husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. With his easy going approach Jim had a way that made you instantly feel welcomed and comfortable; you knew you were in the presence of a truly genuine person with a big heart. Jim had such a warm and infectious smile that you couldn’t resist smiling back at him. He made an impact on everyone he met; a kind word was always spoken when talking about Jim. He had an active life full of fun times, adventures, great friends, and a loving family. Jim truly loved and cared about all the people that surrounded him.
Jim leaves behind his loving family, wife; Karon McCarthy, Daughters; Karie Gilbertson-Domeier and Michelle McCarthy, Son; Kevin McCarthy, Grandchildren; Melissa and Eric Dusten, Heather Domeier, Ryan Domeier, and Sisters; Marilyn Dowler, Patt Christofferson.
Jim was loved by all who knew him. He will be remembered as our “Dancing Bear” and a dear friend we lost too soon. Words will never express how greatly he will be missed by his family and friends.
