Classic cars fill Clare City Park
Over 60 classic vehicles gathered in the Clare City Park for the first Clare Firefighters Boosters Summer Car and Truck Show on Saturday, July 13.
Nearly 90 years separated the oldest for the newest of the entries and many outstanding examples of automobile history took to the field for a good cause.
Over $800 in funds were raised towards the purchase of a much needed wildfire fighting equipment for the Clare Fire Department.
Clare Fire Chief Jim Chapman presented the Chief’s Choice Award to a fire engine red 1962 Chrysler 300 owned by Alvin Chamberlain of Mt. Pleasant.
The top point earner of the day from a panel of four judges was a 1955 Ford Pickup custom showed by Rick and Sandie Allen of Houghton Lake.
Kody Smith’s 1930 Plymouth Sedan from West Branch was given special recognition as well.
Another 30 vehicles were awarded trophies from the judging panel. Sharon Michels, President of the Clare Firefighters Boosters, said the show was made possible because of the cooperation of volunteers, the Fire Department, local sponsors and the public.
Plans will soon be underway to make the 2014 show even bigger and better.
