Cole appointed to Clare BOE
By Pat Maurer
Welcoming new trustee Loren Cole and new Executive Secretary Brittanny Anderson were the highlights of a quiet and brief Clare Board of Education meeting Monday.
Cole was the lone applicant for the seat, the three years remaining in Richard Shively’s term. Shively submitted his resignation last month.
“He may have been the only applicant,” said Board President Tom Weaver, “but I don’t know of anyone better to fill the position.”
The term ends on December 31, 2016.
Superintendent Doniel Pummell also introduced a new staff member. Brittanny Anderson was hired at the Superintendent’s new Executive Secretary replacing Leanne Strouse.
The board also congratulated Business Manager and Chief Financial Officer Lynn Graham who has completed 180 hours of classes and has been certified by MSBO.
In another matter, the board approved a low bid of $32,976.00 for two sets of bleachers for the athletic field. The low bid came from highland Products Group L.L.C. One set is 15 rows by 27 long set and the other is a 15 row by 33 long. With the new bleachers, the seating will increase to over 3,500 for special events. The purchase is funded through donation to the Pioneers are Leader Committee.
The only other action item at the meeting was the approval of a ten cent per meal increase in the cost of school lunches.
Chartwells provided information and a recommendation at the June meeting, citing the increasing costs of food.
In her repot Superintendent Pummel said that staff and students had recently completed promo advertising for WCFX and that all positions for the next school year have been filled.
She said she would like to propose a “white glove” tour of the facilities for board members.
During Committee reports, Pummell reported that the funding plan has been set for the purchase of new busses and that a fund was being set up to raise maintenance funds for Brookwood over the next 15 years.
