Harrison ready for students
Harrison students head back to the classroom on Tuesday, September 3rd. Teachers will have be back to work a bit sooner with professional development on August 27 and 29 and the annual back to school meeting for both faculty and staff on August 28.
Parents are reminded to watch the school website www.harrisonschools.com for special announcements and the school calendar. Open houses and orientations are scheduled in some buildings. The website also has a copy of the bus registration form for parents to fill in and submit to the staff at the bus garage to make sure the transportation department has the correct information needed to organize the bus routes.
This year the district has added staff at the lower elementary in Larson Elementary Schools which will reduce class sizes significantly in grades K,1 and 2. There will also be additional staff members in the areas of English and social studies at Harrison Middle School. This will insure that all middle school students will receive instruction in all three trimesters of the school year in all of the core subjects (English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies)
Changes in the State funding and eligibility requirements for early childhood education will also result in some changes in the Harrison Early Childhood Program. The district anticipates having both full-day and half-day programs available to children who qualify.
Even if a family was found to be ineligible previously, under the new guidelines they may now qualify.
To receive information on early childhood programs for 3 and 4 year olds for the coming school year parents are encouraged to call the Clare-Gladwin Quality Preschool Partnership at 386-8075. The administrative staff at Larson Elementary will also be able to answer questions.
