Loads to do at Senior meal sites
By Pat Maurer
Is exercise your thing? Maybe you love Karaoke, or singing along, or bowling…
A wide assortment of activities can be found on the Clare County Senior Services calendar every single month.
There are four sites where seniors can go for a meal, some conversation or fun nearly every day. Locations for the meal sites are: in in Harrison at the Hayes Township hall at 3821 Grant Avenue – phone 539-5161; in Lake at the DAV Building at 9480 School road – phone 544-2836; in Lake George at the Lincoln Township Hall at 175 Lake George – phone 588-9841; and in Clare at the Clare Castle complex on Fourth Street downtown, the main meal preparation site for the county – phone 386-7130.
Some of the events at the sites include bingo, puzzles, exercise, euchre, games, movies, entertainment, speakers, cards, and even Ice Cream Socials.
Staying healthy is always a plus and at the sites there is regular education on nutrition, health, hearing problems, medical tests and more.
Caring for an aging parent is one of the things many people face as they approach middle age. For those facing this, there is help and support available through the Senior Services in the County. A Caregiver Support Group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each Month at 1:00 p.m. in Clare Castle at 502 Beech St Clare. Call Verna for more information 539-8870.
Since October 1, 2009, Clare County has been operating its own Senior Services and meal sites, taking over the program from the Clare-Gladwin Council on Aging.
The program offers Congregate Meals at the four senior dining centers throughout the county, “providing area seniors with fun, food, friendship and an opportunity to remain connected to the greater community.”
For more information on the many activities available, check out the website at clareseniorservices.org where you can link to the various site calendars, or Call 989-539-8870.
