MSU Agriculture seeks input at MMCC confab
Harrison will be a stop on a Michigan State University tour designed to get input from residents about the future of one of the nation’s premier land-grant institutions. The What’s Now? What’s Next? tour will feature conversations with leaders of MSU’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), MSU Extension and AgBioResearch on August 28, 2012 at Mid Michigan Community College, Michigan Room.
“We’re excited to host this event, and to help make the connection between residents and college leadership,” said Shari Spoelman, an MSU Extension district coordinator and host of the Harrison event. “Our goal is always to provide linkages between the research and education available at Michigan State and the people we serve. This gives a great opportunity to do just that.”
The tour is the brainchild of Fred Poston, dean of the CANR.
“When I was asked to take the helm as dean again last fall, a lot of people asked questions about our current situation and future direction,” he explained. “But it’s not up to me to answer that question alone. I want to gather input from our stakeholders: parents of students and future students, people who use MSU Extension services, those who rely on our research to make their homes, business and families stronger, and anyone else who is interested in the future of this great institution.”
Poston will be joined by MSU Extension director Tom Coon, AgBioResearch director Doug Buhler and Kelly Millenbah, associate dean academic and student affairs for the CANR. The foursome will make 13 stops throughout the state.
“We know that people feel very passionately about this institution and we want to make sure that our priorities line up with the real needs of the people we serve,” Poston added. “That is what the land-grant philosophy is all about.”
The What’s Now? What’s Next? session will take place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Mid Michigan Community College, 1375 S Clare Avenue, Harrison, MI 48625. Residents are encouraged to register before the event, but walk-ins are always welcome. Light refreshments will be served. To register, visit http://events.anr.msu.edu/WhatsNowWhatsNext/.
