Old hotel lot to become part of Surrey Fire Department
By Pat Maurer
The lot where the hotel once stood in Farwell now belongs to the Surrey Township Fire Department. Fire Chief Dave Williams requested that the property be combined with the adjoining Township property where the fire department and township offices are, with the stipulation that the annexed property, although owned by the township, would be for fire department use.
He requested that a written statement be approved at the next township meeting.
Williams also reported on a busy month for the fire department with 39 calls reported in Surrey and 3 in Gilmore Township for a total of 42. He said the department has handled 251 runs so far this year.
County Commissioner Lynn Grim gave a report on county business, reporting that with only six percent of registered voters casting a ballot in the Primary Election, both the Senior Millage renewal and the renewal of the 911 millage passed, the first by 78 percent and the second by 72 percent of voters.
