Program provides supplies to county students
Heading back to the classroom this fall will be a little easier for over 500 area children thanks to the Clare County DHS Volunteer program called “Get on the Bus”. “Get on the Bus” helps low income children of Clare County get ready for the new school year with a new backpack and school supplies.
Join the volunteers of Clare County DHS to make a difference in the community. They have set a goal for 2013 to supply 550 backpacks, stuffed with school supplies, for children in grades K – 12.
Items needed are backpacks, scissors, pencils, crayons, paper, spiral notebooks, folders, glue sticks, ruler, and pens. Bonus items include erasers, stapler, tissue, hand sanitizer, and colored pencils. You can drop off backpack and school supply donations Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Clare County DHS, 725 Richard Dr., in Harrison. For more information call (989) 539-4259.
A new backpack and new school supplies give children a sense of dignity and pride to go back to school. With the proper supplies it is easier for students to concentrate and they are more likely to have a successful school year. Families are asked to pre-register their children for the backpacks by calling (989) 539-4262. Backpacks and school supplies will be available for the children to pick up on August 27th at the annual Clare County Community Connections Day.
