Clare netters spiked by Gladwin

Clare couldn’t keep up with visiting Gladwin in Jack Pine Conference volleyball on Wednesday, suffering a four sets loss to the Lady Flying G’s.
“The girls played right with them tonight,” Clare head coach Emily Blackburn said. “We have to fine tune our blocking, we were weak tonight. We need to get some quickness.”
The Pioneers dropped the first set 25-17 but rebounded in the second to win 25-18. Gladwin finished off the night with 25-23 and 25-16 wins.
“They played well tonight, we had our fair share of errors but we are still learning how to play as a team,” Blackburn said. “Our main focus is still our communication and as soon as we get it down, we will be recording the wins.”
Becca Fisch led the team with seven kills on 24 attacks, Mackenzie Thayer and Laura Walton both had four kills and Cassidy Campbell had three kills. Kenzie Humphrey had 11 assists, Campbell had four aces with Walton adding two blocks.
“I am very proud of these girls so far this season,” Blackburn said. “It’s still early, practice makes perfect and we are still practicing.”
Clare (0-2 JPC) plays at Roscommon on Monday and hosts Meridian on Wednesday.
