Clare runners place 2nd, 3rd
The Clare varsity cross country teams ran a rare two-mile race at the Delta College Invitational on Saturday, where the Clare girls came in second and the boys placed third.
Shepherd won the girls’ portion with 28 points and Clare finished with 76.
Jasmine Harper was fourth with a time of 11:49, Victoria Harper was 11th at 12:42, Holly Pummell was 13th at 12:47, Jayda Sykora was 16th at 12:52, Hannah Brown was 33rd at 13:53. All five runners won a medal for their efforts. Rounding out the varsity race was Madison McPHee with a 50th place finish and time of 14:22 and Jordyn Bradley was 60th at 14:43.
In the junior varsity race, Makenzie Harmon won a medal with a 19th place finish and time of 14:27, Megan Sheredy was 56th at 15:24, Alexis Harton 72nd at 15:50, Sarah Gray placed 76th at 15:54, Bethanie Jones crossed 88th at 16:13, Angelica Krueger came in 93rd at 16:21, Ashley Boulis was 99th at 16:27, Jillian Pappas placed 121st at 16:57, Hannah Bauman was 122nd at 17:19, and Natalie Fedewa was 126th 17:27.
St. Louis won the boy’s portion with 63 points, Shepherd placed second and Clare came in third with 83 points.
Kyler Phillips led the boy’s with a third place finish and time of 10:27, Kevin Spicer-Torres was eighth at 10:43 and Hunter Nivison was 10th at 10:46. Further results were not available for the boys.
The Clare girls middle school team landed fourth out of 23 teams at the invite. In a race with 196 girls competing Lainey Veenkant paced Clare with a seventh th place finish (13:19), Natalee Kunse was 25th (14:26) and Olivia Haring was 35th (14:42, giving all five girls medals. Ellie Kaechelle was 71st (15:55) and Leah Denton was 76th (16:12) to finish off the scoring for the Pioneers. Also running were Desiree Coe in 95th (17:00), Elisabeth Vanderbrook 126th (17:55), Amanda Calkins 148th (19:09), Cecilia Gray 153 (19:29), Madison Smith 154 (19:29) and Emma Kuhlman was 190th (23:54).
Clare runs at Carson City on Saturday and competes in the second Jack Pine Conference Jamboree on Wednesday in Houghton Lake.
