Clare soccer drops two
By Ben Murphy
Big Rapids Cross Roads Academy shutout host Clare on Tuesday night, topping the Pioneers 4-0 in Northern Michigan Soccer League South Division play.
Eric Litke made nine saves in goal.
On Friday, Sept. 13 the Pioneers dropped another NMSL South Division game, 2-1 to McBain Northern Michigan Christian.
“In spite of the loss (our) game is coming together,” Clare head coach Doug Helmling said. “The passing and movement off the ball is starting to pay dividends with scoring chances and goals. The defense is limiting opposing teams to fewer shots on goal.”
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first, getting a Camden Dice goal off a Jacob Karl assist, giving Clare a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Comets tied the game early in the second goal, getting a goal off a corner kick and NMC kicked in the game winner in the game’s final minutes.
“(They’re) aware of how far they have come in such a short time and are optimistic about the remainder of the season,” Helmling said.
Clare (2-7 overall) played at Gladwin on Thursday and hosts Standish-Sterling on Monday.
