Clare soccer picks up first win
The Clare varsity soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday night, topping visiting Pine River 4-1 in Northern Michigan Soccer League Southern Division play.
Clare opened the scoring 10 minutes into the match, getting Camden Dice to boot in an easy goal off of a rebound.
The Pioneers carried that 1-0 lead into the half, adding to it in the 43rd minute, getting a goal by Angel Heras.
Ryan Whiteman added to the Clare lead four minutes later, making it 3-0.
Schroeder Vanderhoof converted a penalty kick for Pine River’s only goal moments later to make it 3-1, but Dice headed in his second goal of the night to cap off the scoring at 4-1.
Clare (1-3) played at Houghton Lake on Thursday, hosts Big Rapids on Monday and plays at Standish-Sterling on Tuesday.
