Runaway teen found in Lake
By Pat Maurer
After a two-day search, Kaylee Smith-Sanders, the 14-year-old Farwell youngster reported missing Monday, has been found in the Lake area, Clare County Undersheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski reported Wednesday.
Kaylee was last seen Monday morning around 7:35 a.m. at her Farwell home when she was leaving for school.
Reportedly she never arrived at school, and school attendance records showed that the teen had not attended school recently, deputies said.
Foul play was not suspected in the disappearance. Police believed the teen was a runaway.
A Sheriff’s Department release Wednesday afternoon said at approximately 9:00 a.m. that morning Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a 17 year old man from Lake at his Freeman Township home for harboring a runaway.
His name was withheld pending arraignment.
Deputies received information that Kaylee had stayed at the residence and learned that the 17-year-old did have the knowledge of her being a runaway. Deputies did not find Kaylee at the home, but later found Kaylee safely hiding in the area.
The incident will be reviewed by the Prosecutor’s Office.
