89-year-old scores hole-in-one at Devil’s Knob
With the final days of October now past, all leagues as well as open play has ended for the 2013 golf season at Devil’s Knob. Highlights of the year include 2 hole-in-ones by senior golfers: 89 year old Aaron Alt (who has played the course for over 30 years, accomplishing this feat on the #9 hole in September), and Anne Sanders (who aced #9 back in June while golfing with the Lutheran League).
After a slow and soggy start in May, the Tuesday evening Men’s League- under the leadership of Pat Mascio- concluded in October with the following end-of-season team standings: 1st place: Jerry Schiehl and Ron Loubert, 2nd place: Mike Lauretti & Dave Knack, and 3rd place: Rich Hansen & Jim Seney. Their final meeting was a scramble match with prizes for all.
Under the auspices of Patsy Ehle, the Monday Ladies’ League concluded in September with their yearly “Fun Day”. Final standing were the following: 1st place: Patsy Ehle, 2nd place: Irene Lauretti, and 3rd place: Julie Ehle.
With weekly variations of golf activities, the Mixed Senior League shows up for new and fun challengers every summer onThursday under the direction of Mike and Irene Lauretti. 1st place winners this year were Allen & Joan Copper, 2nd place: Larry Pfeiffer & Julie Ehle, and 3rd place: Roger & Patsy Ehle.
The Lutheran League (originating from St. Luke’s Church) teed off Thursday morning under the organization of Sandy DeWitt, drawing new names each week to determine partners and scrambling every other week. This group welcomes ALL golfer and is known to be casual, non-competitive, and flexible.
The Thursday night Golf Scramble under the direction of Dick Jensen, allowed both occasional “drop-ins” as well as weekly participants who competed for prizes to be awarded after each game and at the end of their 20-week season. Drawing names for new partners each week, yet competing solo, final prize winners were as follows: 1st place: Ron Loubert, 2nd place: Lloyd Moughler, and 3rd place: Bill Ripley.

Devil’s Knob Golf Course is located on the corner of East Cranberry Lake and North Rodgers Roads, approximately 15 minutes from Harrison and under ½ hour from Clare, Gladwin, and Houghton Lake.
