Veterans honored at Clare High ceremony- Post 558 places wreaths
The Clare-Farwell American Legion Post558 celebrated Veteran’s Day beginning on Saturday November 9. The Wreaths of Remembrance began at Gilmore Township at 10 am on Nov 9. Five wreaths were laid in honor of the 5 branches of the military – Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy. A rifle salute followed the placing of the wreaths. The ceremony was concluded with the playing of TAPS. This ceremony was repeated at the Surrey Township Cemetery, the Lincoln Township Veteran’s Monument, Cherry Grove Cemetery and St. Cecelia Cemetery. Pastor Jim Young shared remarks honoring the Vets at each service. The Clare VFW Honor Guard joined the ceremonies at Cherry Grove and St. Cecelia. A luncheon followed at Post 558 in Farwell.
On Monday Nov 11, the Honor Guard of Post 558 attended a ceremony at the Farwell Elementary School at 8:30 am where they “posted the colors” (presented the US Flag). At 11amWreaths were placed at the Veteran’s Memorial in Farwell park. Jack Albee placed the wreath for the Legion & VFW members, Kelli Bailey placed the wreath for the Legion Auxiliary and Aaron Moline placed the wreath for the Sons of the American Legion. Farwell Village president Steve Grim joined the ceremony with patriotic remarks and a salute to veterans.
