BOC pays tribute to Gretchen Wilbur
By Rosemary Horvath
Gretchen Wilbur wasn’t a Clare County employee but she won praise from Clare County Commissioners nonetheless.
Commissioners paid special tribute Wednesday to the 34-year employee of the Michigan Department of Human Services who served as the community resource coordinator the last 25 years.
A resolution declaring admiration, respect and best wishes, the county singled out Wilbur’s achievements, including:
Work with volunteers to provide services to low income and vulnerable populations, raising funds annually for back-to-school event that provided backpacks and school supplies for 500 students, and Project Kids Christmas that provided households with clothing, gifts, food and necessities.
Wilbur was a founding member of the county’s adult resource committee, Habitat for Humanity, the Enterprise Community, Continuum of Care Group and Community Nutrition Network.
She established a mentoring program for first-time parents called Welcome Little One and helped co-found the former Hard Times Café.
