Demolition Complete On Thayer Dairy, Site Prep Continues For Senior Complex
The new, four-story senior apartment complex in downtown Clare is moving on to the next step in development as demolition is now complete.
The corner of Fourth and Beech Street in downtown Clare looks remarkably different now that the old Thayer Dairy/Mid Michigan Community Action (MMCAA) warehouse has been completely demolished. Demolition, which was funded through a grant of $262,800 from the Michigan State Housing Authority Housing and Community Development Fund, took approximately 5 weeks.
Now that the building is completely gone, site preparation has begun to prepare for the $3 million complex.Â
“It has been an exciting process to watch the transformation of the property, Jill Sutton, MMCAA Grants and Development Director, said. “Site preparation is going as planned, and we hope to break ground on the senior complex in May or June.”
The building will provide 24 apartments which will be available to eligible low-income seniors in Clare County. The cost of the $3 million project will be covered, in part, by tax credits.
The County of Clare has also approved intent to operate a Senior Community Center and meal site on the ground floor.
“The need for new, affordable housing for seniors was needed for a long time, Sutton said, “and it is our hope that this project will help address that need while at the same time make a positive impact in downtown Clare.”
The project is being developed by Fourth Street Senior Housing LDHA LP, a partnership between Mid Michigan Community Action and P.S. Equities of Mount Pleasant.
Mid Michigan Community Action Agency is a non-profit, human services agency serving Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola Counties since 1966.
