9th Lumberjack Festival starts today
The ninth annual old-fashioned Farwell Lumberjack Festival begins this evening with a spaghetti supper at the Surrey Township Fire Hall.
The Lumberjack Festival, sponsored by the Farwell Area Chamber of Commerce, brings back some exciting events from Michigan’s lumbering era including chainsaw carving, a greased pig contest, Lumberjack shows, Chicken Chuckin, arm wrestling, horseshoes, pie eating and even a skillet toss.
Friday evening at 5:30, the Lumberjack Parade begins its march through the village followed by several events for youngsters and adults alike in and around the Village Park.
Winding up the evening, the Street Dance for all ages will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Wyman parking lot with Party Time productions.
Saturday’s activities begin with a Pancake Breakfast at the Senior Center. For a nostalgic trip down memory lane, the Farwell Museum will be open both Saturday and Sunday.
Lumberjack shows will be held in the park throughout the day Saturday and Sunday.
Other old fashioned events will include a 5K Run/Walk Saturday morning, Chainsaw Carving competitions on both days, a Craft Show, Car Show and loads of things for the youngsters including the famous annual greased pig contests.
Entertainment will be on hand both days and some unique competitions for the adults including arm wrestling, a skillet toss, horseshoes, pie eating contest, Chicken Chuckin’ and even a chili cookoff.
The three-day event winds up Sunday afternoon.
