Lake George man charged with Arson

A 26 year-old Lake George man has been charged with arson in connection with an August 14 fire at 2777 Dell road in Frost Township.

Jessie Lee Smith was arrested September 14 and arraigned on one count of Arson – Real Property in 80th District Court under Magistrate Rick LaBoda September 15. A preliminary examination has been set for September 28 at 2 p.m.

According to the Clare County Sheriff’s Department, the CCSD Fire Investigator was called to the fire scene where he found that a garage on property had been set on fire. Two witnesses claimed to have seen suspects at the scene at the time of the fire.

The Investigator determined after interviewing the two that one of the witnesses was actually the suspect in the arson case. Smith was interviewed about his involvement, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He faces up to ten years in prison if found guilty of the charges. Smith’s bond was set at $5,000 personal recognizance and he was released.
