MMCA gets donation

Homeless individuals often need a safe place to stay while they are waiting to be transitioned into stable housing, and a generous donation of $3,000 from the Clare County Enterprise Community will help Mid Michigan Community Action provide that service.

“This donation from the Clare County Enterprise Community will help to fill a gap in services, Sharon Wainman, Mid Michigan Community Action Outreach Services Director, said. “Oftentimes, homeless families have to go up to 50 miles away to a shelter while they are waiting for placement into stable housing.  That causes more instability because their kids cannot stay in the same school, they are moved away from jobs; it makes it even more difficult for the families,” she said.

The $3,000 donation will be used to supplement funding from other homeless programs.  In program year 2008, Mid Michigan Community Action helped 193 families across six counties with shelter assistance
