Over 10,000 lose power in Clare County

Approximately 10,150 Clare County customers lost power Monday, September 28 when a high voltage line serving three substations “locked out” [shortage], according to Consumers Energy representative Mary Gust.

Reportedly customers in Clare, Farwell and Lake lost power.

“All but 2,900 customers’ power was restored by 9:53 a.m. and the remaining customers had power restored at 10:56 a.m.,” she reported.

“We are unsure of the cause,” she continued. “We’re not sure if it was caused by our equipment or the line, which is not owned by Consumers.” She said the high voltage line is owned by ITC Transmission Company and said for security reasons, the locations of the line and substations could not be released.
