Betty L. Alexander

Betty L. Alexander, age 75 of Clare, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the Tendercare Nursing Home in Clare.  Betty was born the daughter of Amel and Anna (Seehaus) Zastrow on March 18, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio.  She was united in marriage to Marlin Alexander on March 8, 1952.  Betty was a 1951 graduate of Clare High School. 

   Together her and Marlin had owned and operated Alexander Shoe Store in Clare for twenty years, as well as Lakeside Restaurant and Higgins Lake Miniature Golf for twenty-five years.  Betty was a Life member of the Eastern Stars, as well as a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Clare VFW Auxiliary Post 5738, and the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 110 Auxiliary.

   Betty is survived by her husband Marlin; children Monica Lou (Edward) O’Donnell of Marquette, Joseph Lee (Sheri) Alexander of Mt. Pleasant, and Kristle Alward of Lake Orion; her sister Margaret Bell; and 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  Betty was predeceased by her parents, her adoptive father, and her five siblings.

   A Memorial Service for Betty will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 3 P.M. at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Bromley officiating.  The Order of Eastern Stars will present Funeral Rites at this time.  Visitation will take place prior to the services starting at 2 P.M.  Burial will be held in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Clare VFW Auxiliary Post 5738.   If you are unable to attend Betty’s services please consider leaving her family an on-line condolence at www.stephenson-wyman.com
