Humphrey named Clare Mayor again

There won’t be any changes on the Clare City Commission for the next year.

After he and Bill Horwood were sworn in for three more years on the Commission Monday evening, Pat Humphrey, the only nominee, was elected 5-0 as City Mayor for another year. He has served as the Mayor since 2004. Both Humphrey and Horwood were elected for another three years on the Commission November 3.

In the special Monday evening meeting, Jean McConnell was also unanimously elected to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem for another year. She has been Mayor Pro-Tem since November, 2007.

Board and Committee appointments finished out the 15 minute meeting, with Jim Allen re-appointed for another three-year term on the Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Board and Dr. Kurt Keppner appointed to serve for three years on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Four were appointed to serve new terms on the Tree Advocacy Group: Jeanne Sheelander and Ron Verch will serve two-year terms and Mel Johns and John Audretsch were appointed to serve one-year terms. A fifth seat on the group remains empty. The group was formed following the adoption of a Municipal Tree Ordinance in 2008. Members assist the Director of Public Works in developing a tree plan for the City, promoting the plan’s goals, coordinating Arbor Day events, promoting new and existing tree programs and providing a mans of public input in a community forestry management plan.
