Fillmore, Calkins honored by hospital

William Henderson, chair of the board of directors of MidMichigan Health, named two recipients of the Terence F. Moore Leadership Award during an all-MidMichigan Health administrative meeting. The honorees are Karen Calkins, vice president, MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland, and Cindy Fillmore, manager of laboratory services, MidMichigan Medical Center-Clare.

The annual award recognizes employees within MidMichigan Health affiliates who foster the values of MidMichigan Health such as ability, responsiveness and accountability. Selected leaders have distinguished themselves by positively influencing people throughout the organization in such areas as professionalism, compassion, honesty and teamwork.

Richard M. Reynolds, president of MidMichigan Health, joined the board of directors in congratulating Calkins and Fillmore. “There are many excellent leaders within MidMichigan’s leadership team, and these two individuals are highly representative of such leadership excellence, Reynolds said.”

Calkins began her career with MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland as a nurse in 1970. In her role as vice president, Karen is co-leader of a project to oversee development of the electronic medical record in MidMichigan Health Medical Centers in Alma, Clare, Gladwin and Midland. She is also the top nursing administrator for MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland.

Fillmore is a medical laboratory technician with a master’s degree in business from Northwood University. She is in charge of the laboratory services at MidMichigan Medical Center-Clare, MidMichigan Health Park-Houghton Lake and MidMichigan Medical Offices-Roscommon. Fillmore is also in charge of risk management and accreditation of the Medical Center in Clare.

Lawrence F. Barco, president of MidMichigan Medical Center-Clare, presented the leadership award to Fillmore. “Cindy’s dedication and diligence are beyond remarkable. Customer safety and satisfaction are her number one concerns. She is an excellent mentor because of her sound judgment, leadership, guidance and direction.”
