Donald E. Blow
Donald E. Blow passed away Saturday November 28, 2009 at the Cottages of Greenacres, Greenacres Florida. He was born on January 7, 1931 to the late Harry and Agnes (Best) Blow in Reading, Kansas. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He returned to Kansas and attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Teaching in 1958. He completed his Master’s Degree in Teaching in 1959 and then went on to teach in several locations before joining the Department of Defense Schools and teaching at Clarke Air Force Base in the Philippines where he met his future wife Jean Hicks.
Don and Jean Hicks were married on June 30, 1961 in Alma, Michigan. They taught in the central Michigan area for several years before finally obtaining positions at Farwell Public High School.
Don taught primarily business classes for 30 years at Farwell High School before retiring at the end of the 1986 school year. He and Jean then split their time between Clare and their winter home in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Don is survived by Jean, his wife of 48 years; daughter Jamie Blow (Frederick, MD); son Gary (Jenny) Blow (Ludington, MI); grandchildren Ryan and Trista Blow (Gloucester, VA); and brothers Harry (Anita) Blow (Nixa, MO), Jack (Linda) Blow (Topeka, KS), Ray (Sonja) Blow (Nixa, MO), James (Deni) Blow (Ronan, MT); and sisters Patty Noble (Osage, KS), Judy (John) Blow Rice (Emporia, KS), Mary Jane Blow (Emporia, KS), and, Shirley Blow Evert (Aurora, CO). His brother, Roy Blow, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held in June in Clare. Memorials may be made to the Mid-Michigan Home Care and Hospice. Arrangements were handled by the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home in Clare. On-line guestbook available at www.stephenson-wyman.com
