Clare Firefighters learn to rescue ice victims

The Clare Fire Department is learning to save lives on local waterways. Assistant Chief Mike Sargent and training officers John Bouchey and Chad Calkins successfully completed the ice water rescue course, train-the-trainer. These members in turn trained a contingent of Clare firefighters to be able to respond when needed. In addition to this training the department has purchased ice rescue suits for their safety along with rescue equipment for victims of any emergency on the ice. With this equipment and knowledge the department hopes to be able to order more protection for the residents they serve.
