Clare splits with Bullock Creek & Pine River

Last week the Clare High School baseball team split a pair of double headers. They traveled to Midland Bullock Creek on Monday where they won the first game 4-3 and lost the nightcap 11-9. Kris English picked up the win in the opener as he pitched 6 strong innings without yielding a run and giving up only one hit while striking out 9 batters. Taylor Jenkins picked up the save in relief.

English also helped his own cause at the plate as he clubbed a double for 2 rbi’s. Hunter Emery also added a double.

In the nightcap the Pioneers wasted a solid pitching effort by Tyler Wentworth as he went five innings giving up 4 runs and striking out 8 Lancer batters. Travis Smith took the loss in relief. The Pioneers committed a pair of errors in the sixth inning leading to 6 runs.

Matt English collected a triple and a single in the contest. Tyler Beatty added a triple for 2 rbi’s and Smith clouted a home run and a single. Wentworth also added a triple.

On Thursday the Pioneers traveled to Pine River and were beaten by the Bucks in the first game 8-1. Clare could not muster an offensive attack and also gave up several unearned runs in the sixth inning. Beatty pitched a fine game up until the fateful sixth inning striking out 9 hitters. Cameron Allen collected two hits in the contest.

Taylor Jenkins pitched a one hitter in the second game and was the beneficiary of some timely hitting. Kris English got the Pioneers off to a good start with a first inning home run. Matt English added 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Smith added two hits as did Hunter Emery.
