Why I relay??

Editor’s Note: Relay for Life will be held on August 14th and 15th in Clare County at the Harrison Community High School. As the main sponsor of the most important event, The Clare County Review will feature the story of a cancer survivor, their struggles and triumphs as we move forward to make this year’s Relay for Life the best ever.

What follows is Lisa Connors story:

My name is Lisa Keen-Connors and I choose to relay in memory of my mom Mollie Keen-Fritz. I started relaying in 2004 to keep her memory alive.

My mom was like most other cancer patients she was a survivor in and out of remission my whole life. She never let anyone or anything especially cancer stand in her way. She herself working with hospice patient’s everyday for thirteen years she gave hope and inspiration not only to the patients that she saw on a daily basis but the families as well.

My family felt hopeless when she got sick for the final time. She in fact sat all of us down and explained each step of the way so that we could somewhat prepare ourselves for what was to come. She never seemed to let us see her cry or to see her despair in her last days and that is why keeping her memory alive is so important to all of us.

I might not be able to find a cure for cancer but with the money that we raise for Relay for Life it does not close the door on finding those cures. It is a rewarding experience to participate in such an event as this. So please join not only myself but others that want to find a cure. I will be at the Harrison Community High School August 14th and 15th to help find that cure, will you be there to help fight with me??
