Bernard Tubbs

Bernard H. Tubbs, age 90, of Lake, passed away on Friday, July 16, at his home.  He was born the son of Clifford and Mary (Schreur) Tubbs on Mar. 7, 1920 in Freesoil, Michigan.  Bernard had been Class Valedictorian of Gaylord High School class of 1937, earned his BA of Science at MSU School of Agriculture, and moved to the Clare area in 1945.  Bernard had served with the US Army in Italy during WWII, he had obtained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Bernard married the former Kathryn Hallberg who preceded him in death in 1983.  He later married Ruth Stetson and she preceded him in death in 2005.  He had worked as a production and research manager for Dow Chemical and retired in 1978.  He was a member of the Clare VFW, had attended the Clare Congregational United Church of Christ, and had been a Boy Scout leader in Midland.

Survivors include his son Bob (Helen) Tubbs of Lake, daughter Barbara Hinton (with whom he made his home) of Lake , grandchildren, Julie (Jon) Johnson, Kevin (Becky) Tubbs, great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Jessica Johnson, Amanda and Wyatt Tubbs, and Allison and Jacob Snell.  He was preceded in death by his two wives and a brother Lloyd of Freesoil.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.  A private graveside service will take place in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare.  The family was served by Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Homes of Clare and Farwell.
