Lake man reports near miss

Gail Platz of Lake spends six to seven hours every day enjoying his deck, sitting under a canopy and watching the wildlife.

Sunday, 12 inches and a trip into his garage saved him from being impaled by an arrow.

Platz, who is retired, reported that he was on his deck under the canopy listening to the Tigers play, when he went into his garage for a moment. “When I came back,” he said, “there was an arrow imbedded in my deck about 12 inches behind the chair I was sitting in. It had come down through the canopy from the direction of U.S. 10.”

Platz lives on the corner of Trails End and Mystic Lake Roads near the boat launch.

He reported the incident to an officer from the Clare County Sheriff’s Department, who took a report and interviewed neighbors to try and find out where the arrow came from. “He didn’t sound like he would be able to find out anything,” Platz said.

“It makes you wonder if you are safe sitting on your own deck.”
