Michigan State University Extension will offer a food safety class entitled Cooking for Crowds at the Clare County Michigan State University Extension office, 225 W. Main Street, Harrison, MI.  The class takes place on Monday, November 16, 2015 from 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM.
Cooking for Crowds is a program designed to educate day-care providers and nonprofit groups who prepare food.  Its goal is to show the food safety risks that develop when cooking large volumes of food and how to reduce those risks so that the prepared food is both safe and delicious.  Although many of the food safety strategies recommended are similar to those recommended to commercial food establishments, the strategies have been translated into practical methods to meet the specific needs of these specialized groups. Pre-registration is required. To register, go to or call the Clare County MSU Extension office at (989) 539-7805..  For more information about Cooking for Crowds, please call Lisa Treiber at 989-832-6643 or e-mail

Your thoughtfulness and consideration can help to make the holiday season more enjoyable for those who are living in less fortunate circumstances. You can bring holiday Christmas joy to families in need through the Clare County Christmas Outreach Adopt-A-Family program!
The Adopt-A-Family program was created to address the needs of low-income households, children and families, during the holidays. Join in the season of giving by becoming a Family Sponsor! We make it easy for you by providing a family summary of the names, ages and needs of each family member.
All you have to do is to provide gifts for each family member and the fixings for a Christmas meal or a gift certificate to a local grocery store to cover the cost of dinner or breakfast. Over 100 low income Clare County families are presently on the Adopt-A-Family waiting list.
To become a sponsor call United Way of Clare and Gladwin Counties at (989) 386-6015 no later than November 14th!
