On Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Jay’s Sporting Goods in Clare the banquet is from 5:30 – 8:00 pm. Cost is $50 per ticket or $90 a couple. To purchase tickets or for more information call 989-539-7000. Join Clare County Parks and Recreation Friends of the Parks for a banquet dinner. The evening includes a live auction, 50/50 raffle, guest speakers and fabulous door prizes.

Local middle and high school students from the Midland Young Entrepreneurs Academy Class (YEA!) of 2014 at the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce will reveal 11 new start-up businesses to the public, at the YEA!  Trade Show on Saturday, May 10, 2014 , from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Midland Mall, located at 6800 Eastman Avenue, Midland, Michigan.

The Trade Show is a culmination of nine months of hard work, resulting in the graduates owning and operating their own businesses. These YEA! students are taught by local business leaders and are introduced to guest lecturers, successful entrepreneurs, and business mentors throughout the year.  They have brainstormed potential business ideas, performed market research, wrote business plans, pitched to investors, filed official paperwork with the county and state and are ready to launch their companies.

The Trade Show is free and open to the public.

YEA! runs during the academic year from October to May, with classes meeting once-a-week for three hours. The program is now currently accepting applications from middle and high school students for the YEA! Class of 2015. The Trade Show is a great way to decide if applying to YEA! is right for you!

The 16th Annual Community Walk & Roll for Mental Health Awareness will be held Saturday, May 10, at Island Park in Mt. Pleasant.  Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. The walk begins at Island Park, located at 331 N. Main Street in Mt. Pleasant, and travels through the paths of our local city parks.  There are many routes available for walkers & rollers, but everyone can travel at their own pace.

The walk is co-sponsored by Mid Michigan Industries (MMI) and Community Mental Health for Central Michigan (CMHCM),  and the Central Michigan RICC, in cooperation with Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation and many community sponsors which include many local businesses. You may register the day of the event or to pre-register; you can pick up forms at any of MMI’s offices throughout mid-Michigan, (see for local address.

The Farwell United Methodist church invites the public to its monthly Swiss Steak Dinner on Thurs., May 15, 4:30-6:00 p..m. Menu includes swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, hot vegetable, cole slaw, rolls and pie. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children.  The Church is located at the corner of Ohio and Superior Streets.
