RIDE AROUND MICHIGAN

The journey takes motorcycle riders through each of the 83 counties in Michigan. Each chapter within Forgotten Eagles® holds remembrance ceremonies to honor all those who have served and who currently serve our country. The Freedom Ride, done in conjunction with the annual Ride Around Michigan (RAM) is dedicated to our fallen brothers and sisters and the POW/MIA’s. The ride begins at Snow bowl Road just south of Houghton Lake. Police escorted down US 27 to the C&S Harley Davidson in Mt. Pleasant where more riders are picked up and then continues from there to the Michigan Vietnam Memorial at Island Park in Mt. Pleasant.
“JIMMY ROBERTS” MEMORIAL RACE
The running of the 1st Annual “Jimmy Roberts” Memorial Race will be held on Friday, August 1st at Mt. Pleasant Speedway. Jimmy Roberts, a Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Famer, lost his battle with cancer in 2013. To recognize his contributions to the Auto Racing Sport, the racing on Friday night, at Mt. Pleasant Speedway, will be dedicated in his honor.
Jimmy began his racing career at age 10 when he built a race car, driven by Franny Stover, then went on 2 years later to win Tri-City Speedway Season Championship.
Over the years he perfected his craft, racing his own cars, breaking track records, winning features, building race cars for others, and pushing to new limits in the racing industry. He has raced all over Michigan, as well as the Midwest, generally with his reputation leading the way.
Racing can be an expensive hobby, so Jimmy always looked for the best payouts. In his honor, his family has enlisted quite a few sponsors to help bump up the payout at Mt. Pleasant Speedway on Friday Night, so you should see a good number of top quality racing teams. You can expect a great show!
Come early and purchase tickets for BBQ Dinner starting at 5:00. Several ticket packages available. Racing begins at 8:00. For more information, call 989-205-4560.

On Saturday, Aug. 2 beginning at 9 a.m., the committee is seeking volunteers 16 years and older to pound in nails on the interior of the depot which were left in place when the depot was gutted in preparation for the move to Fourth Street in April. Windows have been purchased and will be installed that day so we will need volunteers on hand to help prepare the exterior of the building for their installation. Special carpentry skills are not needed; just a hammer, gloves, safety glasses, appropriate footwear–and perhaps ear plugs. Come when you can and stay as long as you want! A hot dog lunch will be provided for volunteers.
The Clare Depot located on 4th Street across from the Clare Castle Senior Center.
Additionally, the new depot windows are available for sponsorship. Sponsor’s names will be placed on a nameplate beneath the window sponsored. A list of windows needing sponsorship will be available at the August 2 community volunteer event at the depot.
If you have questions, please contact Diane Lyon at firstname.lastname@example.org or (989) 386-7541 x 106. More information about the depot project and making a donation can be found at claredepot.com.
